News & Updates - The Business Roundtable Announces Endorsment of the 2016 School Facilities Bond

Sacramento – The California Business Roundtable (CBRT) announced its support for The Kindergarten Through Community College Public Education Facilities Bond Act of 2016, a $9 billion bond to provide much-needed funds to improve California’s classrooms and ensure students have access to computers, technology and career-education programs. The measure will appear on the November 2016 ballot.

“The business leaders of the Roundtable have always made workforce development one of our top priorities. Our Board is committed to ensuring today’s students are ready for the jobs of tomorrow’s economy, many of which do not exist today,” said CBRT President Rob Lapsley.

“The Kindergarten Through Community College Public Education Facilities Bond Act of 2016 will ensure that our students have the best resources and facilities available to learn effectively and become sought-after employees for California’s diverse economy,” added Lapsley.

The bond measure would maintain the state’s facilities funding program, which, since its creation in 1998, has been very successful in constructing safe and secure classrooms for more than 1.3 million children and modernized facilities for more than 3.4 million more. There is currently a $2 billion backlog in local K-12 projects awaiting funding, and it is estimated another $20 billion will be needed in the next decade to meet future needs.
