SACRAMENTO—California Business Roundtable President Rob Lapsley issued the following statement today in response to the passage of Proposition 1, which will bring much-needed accountability and transparency to the billions spent on homelessness and mental health services each year:
“CBRT supported Prop. 1 as an important reform to help address the state’s ongoing homelessness crisis and its passage reinforces that California voters are willing to increase revenue for essential programs when there are appropriate transparency and accountability measures to ensure their money is spent responsibly. The implementation of CARE courts, together with Prop. 1, will work to provide a comprehensive network of solutions, with appropriate incentives and accountability to increase positive outcomes for individuals experiencing homelessness and mental health issues. Now, we turn our attention to bringing that same accountability and transparency to all new taxes with the Taxpayer Protection and Government Accountability Act while also working to ensure much-needed Prop. 47 and retail theft reform qualifies for the general election ballot.”
