(SACRAMENTO)- California Business Roundtable President Rob Lapsley issued the following statement today in response to a series of bills introduced in the California Legislature related to rental housing:

“California voters decisively and overwhelmingly rejected Proposition 10 and statewide rent control last November. It is clear that our housing crisis is based on a supply problem and these bills do nothing to stimulate investment to build desperately needed housing that will help our economy. While we have yet to see language, we have significant concerns that the increased litigation costs associated with AB 1481 (Bonta) will drive up housing costs and slow the construction of desperately needed affordable and market-rate housing.

“We strongly support SB 248 (Glazer), which will increase the California Renters Tax Credit and provide renters with relief without creating barriers to new construction. The governor rightly acknowledges the impact the housing crisis has on every aspect of our economy, including our ability to retain and grow jobs here. We also look forward to working with him on his recently released proposals to remove barriers to affordable and market rate housing. Increased supply through new construction, not increased regulation, is the only real solution to this crisis.”
