(SACRAMENTO)—California Business Roundtable President Rob Lapsley issued the following statement today in response to the submission of a new rent control ballot initiative that, if qualified, would appear on the November 2020 ballot:

“Voters in this state overwhelmingly defeated a rent control measure just five months ago. Study after study has shown that rent control hurts the housing market, will stop investment of new development and will only make the housing crisis worse. CBRT strongly opposes this newly proposed ballot measure and will once again work to defeat it should it qualify. It is time to come together on solutions to meet the governor’s ambitious goal of 3.5 million new housing units by 2025, the only true long-term solution to the housing crisis. Statewide rent control as proposed by this new measure will only make this goal harder to achieve.”
