Every year, dozens of legislative proposals are enacted in California that impact the state's business climate. Some of these proposals result in thousands of pages of new regulations, bureaucracy and red tape often with overlapping, contradictory and confusing interpretations, resulting in unintended consequences and damage to California's economic climate.
From the environment to employee benefits, energy, education and infrastructure, ill-conceived or poorly implemented government regulations can have disastrous results. We need look no further than
the recent energy crisis to witness the damage that can result from overlapping bureaucracies and regulatory entities attempting to implement regulations and laws that ignore the simple economic principles of supply and demand.
With an eye to the future, the California Business Roundtable will look for ways to reduce the overlapping bureaucracies in state and local governments. Not only will the Roundtable seek to impact government regulation as it is being enacted in the Legislature and interpreted by regulatory bodies, but more importantly, the Roundtable will analyze and assess existing regulations, laws and government structure that negatively impact the business climate in California and damage the ability of business to produce jobs and economic growth in the state.
