California Business Roundtable
Energy

California's energy problems are far from over. Soaring prices and inadequate supply have strained our economy, and consumers and businesses will continue to pay high energy costs into the foreseeable future. The California Business Roundtable understands the importance of a reliable energy supply to help our economy grow and prosper.

Over the past decade, California has not generated significant additional energy production, but energy demand has been steadily rising as a result of population growth and advances in technology. That has led to demand that far outstrips supply, causing spikes in electricity costs. New plants are now coming on line to close this imbalance.

Technology and manufacturing companies need a constant, reliable source of energy to ensure productivity. These industries are absolutely vital to California's continued economic prosperity. Without it, they will relocate jobs and facilities to states with reliable electricity and affordable rates.

Overcoming the energy crisis will require a multi-faceted approach of conservation, alternative energy sources and increased production. A sufficient energy supply is vital to maintaining the economic health of our state. California energy producers are working to build additional, efficient, clean electric generating facilities that will help bring supply back in line with demand.

The California Business Roundtable supports:

  • Increased production - Increasing energy production is imperative to California's energy supply. There simply is not enough generation, and newer plants are more efficient and environmentally friendly.
  • Continued deregulation - As energy supply increases, electric rates will stabilize and market competition will finally be able to work.
  • Conservation - Everyone must do their part to ensure that we are using our energy resources in the most effective ways possible.

Reliable and affordable sources of energy are key to California's economic future, and the California Business Roundtable will continue to play a leadership role in seeking solutions to the state's energy problems.
